NFL Notes: Cardinals, Jets, Raiders, & Titans

Cardinals

Cardinals GM GM Steve Keim mentioned that they are deep enough at certain positions that it’s possible they could look to the trade market for help this summer.

It’s a good concern, (but) for the first time we have a certain amount of depth here where we’re either going to have the ability to trade a player, or two, or four or five at certain positions that can not only make other NFL rosters, but could potentially start for some teams,” Keim said during an appearance on the Doug and Wolf show, via Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic . “So I have to be active and make sure that I address that situation so we’re not just releasing players and allowing teams to pick them up.”

Darren Urban suggests defensive linemen, defensive backs, and offensive linemen as positions where the Cardinals may have some players available for trade.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN does not expect the Jets to have a “quick hook” for QB Geno Smith if he is under performing. If that is to occur, Cimini writes that their Week 5 bye could be a suitable time to make a switch at quarterback.
  • Quinton Coples is expected to start as an outside linebacker, but will also play as a defensive end in certain situations.
  • Cimini believes that the Jets are interested in Eagles OG Evan Mathis, but thinks their available cap space of $4.9 million likely puts them out of contention for his services.

Raiders

  • Bill Williamson of ESPN believes the Raiders did not do enough this offseason to improve their pass rush.
  • OLB Sio Moore is believed to be recovering “well” from a hip injury, and the team is happy with his progress.
  • If Moore is not available for the regular season, free agent LB Malcolm Smith is expected to start in his place.
  • Williamson writes that OC Bill Musgrave will have a “long” leash with the offense this season.

Titans

  • Paul Kuharsky of ESPN believes WR Kendall Wright‘s dip in production last season had to do with his unfamiliarity with HC Ken Whisenhunt‘s system.
  • Kuharsky writes that the Titans addressed their needs at right tackle by signing third-round rookie Jeremiah Poutasi. If that fails, then free agent addition Byron Bell could also step in.
