Browns QB Josh McCown Out For Season With Broken Collarbone

Update:

Browns HC Mike Pettine announced Tuesday that QB Josh McCown is out for the rest of the year with a broken collarbone.

Pettine isn’t ready to announce a starting quarterback at this point in time, but he’ll obviously be deciding between  Johnny Manziel and Austin Davis.

McCown will likely be placed on season-ending injured reserve in the coming days.

Mary Kay Cabot is reporting that QB Josh McCown has a possible broken collarbone, and could be out for the remainder of the season.

Browns HC Mike Pettine said that McCown will undergo further testing tomorrow, but it sounds like it could be season-ending.

It will be interesting to see if the Browns elect to give Johnny Manziel another shot should McCown miss some time, or go with Austin Davis, who actually played well down the stretch for Cleveland.

Browns HC Mike Pettine told reporters after Monday night’s loss to the Ravens that QB Josh McCown sustained a collarbone injury.

  • Mary Kay Cabot reporters that McCown was seen walking out of the locker room with his injured arm in a sling.
  • Pettine said that McCown will play if healthy, per Cabot.

Hopefully for McCown this isn’t a fractured collarbone, which would end his 2015 season.

McCown, 36, signed a three-year, $14 million contract that included 6.25 million guaranteed to go along with another $6 million in incentives. He’ll make a base salary of $2.25 million this season and another $4.375 million (2016) and $3.625 million (2017) over the remainder of the agreement.

Entering tonight’s game, McCown had thrown for 1,897 yards while completing 65 percent of his passes to go along with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions over the course of seven games.

We’ll have more regarding McCown’s injury and a timetable as the news is available.
