NFL Notes: HC Candidates, Broncos, & Eagles

  • Steelers OC Todd Haley
  • Bengals OC Hue Jackson
  • Bills assistant HC Anthony Lynn
  • Jaguars assistant to the head coach Doug Marrone
  • Patriots OC Josh McDaniels
  • Panthers DC Sean McDermott
  • UCLA HC Jim Mora
  • Panthers OC Mike Shula

Other candidates who could generate interest include:

  • Chiefs RBs coach Eric Bieniemy
  • Seahawks assistant HC/OL coordinator Tom Cable
  • Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly
  • Buccaneers OC Dirk Koetter
  • Giants OC Ben McAdoo
  • Patriots DC Matt Patricia

  • Eagles OC Pat Shurmur

Broncos

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen writes that the Broncos face a potentially difficult offseason as OLB Von Miller and QB Brock Osweiler are set to be unrestricted free agents.

On top of that, they’ll need to decide what to do with Peyton Manning, who will by 40 years old and be owed $19 million for the 2016 season.

Denver would need to get one of Osweiler and Miller under contract so that they could use their franchise tag on the other player. The problem, of course, is that franchising Osweiler after he’s played a handful of games would be a costly move.

Should Osweiler test the open market, Schefter and Mortensen list the Browns, Rams, Texans, 49ers and Jets as teams who are likely to be in the market for quarterback.

Eagles

Jeff McLane of Philly.com writes that no matter how Sam Bradford performs over the final five games of the season, the Eagles will have to make a franchise-altering decision at the quarterback position next year.

The Eagles will end up sending their 2016 second-round pick to the Rams to complete the Bradford trade. However, Bradford is in position to test the open market, and given his performance since joining the Eagles, there are obvious questions whether they’ll even consider bringing him back.

McLane mentions that Philadelphia could consider trading for quarterbacks such as Colin Kaepernick or Robert Griffin III or possibly target someone in the like Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch, or Connor Cook.

Outside of Bradford, free agents options will be limited to players such as Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brock Osweiler and Kirk Cousins.
