Report: Giants Don’t Want To Fire HC Tom Coughlin, Concerned About Available Options

Jason Cole of B/R spoke to a source within the Giants’ organization following their loss on Sunday who mentioned that their concern is that they don’t want to fire HC Tom Coughlin right now, given that so much could change in the final four weeks of the season.

However, should the Giants continue to struggle, Cole mentions that they’ll discuss the possibility of moving on from Coughlin.

According to Cole, there are a limited number of coaching candidates out there that the Giants really like. Cole mentions that Alabama HC Nick Saban and Saints HC Sean Payton could be of interest to them.

The Giants have previously targeted candidates with prior head-coaching experience and have worked as a member of the organization in the past.

Obviously, there aren’t a lot of candidates who meet this criteria, which could allow Coughlin to hang around longer than some anticipate.

For what it’s worth, Jordan Raanan of NJ.com took a look at 12 potential head coaching candidates for the Giants who could replace Coughlin after the season.

Coughlin, 69, is in his 12th season as Giants’ head coach and has led them to a record of 101-87 (53.7 percent) to go along with five playoff appearances and two Super Bowl titles.

We’ll have more regarding Coughlin’s future with the team as the news is available.
