Report: “A Lot Of Truth” DeMarco Murray Wanting To Return To Cowboys

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that there’s “a lot of truth” to the notion that Eagles RB DeMarco Murray would like to return to the Cowboys.

Florio mentions that while Murray may want out of Philadelphia, HC Chip Kelly won’t make it easy on him.

Florio adds that if the Eagles ever become inclined to move on from Murray, they’ll attempt to trade him. However, this would require a team to pick up his $7 million fully-guaranteed salary in 2016.

It’s worth mentioning that Murray told reporters on Thursday that he “100 percent” wants to be back with the Eagles next year.

Multiple NFL executives tells Jason Cole of B/R that they believe DeMarco Murray is trying to get out of Philadelphia and return to the Cowboys.

Cole mentions that both Eagles HC Chip Kelly and Murray are well aware of the fact that they aren’t a good fit with one another.

However, in order for Murray to return to the Cowboys, it would likely require the Eagles to release him, given that there is $31 million remaining on his contract with $9 million guaranteed on the final four years of his contract.

Cole wonders if Kelly will be willing admit that signing Murray was a mistake and elect to release him next year, even though he could return to their division rival.

Last night, Mike Florio of Pro Football mentioned that there’s a chance Murray “is trying to talk his way out of Philadelphia” after he expressed his frustrations to team owner Jeffery Lurie.

It’s worth mentioning that Kelly denied any issues between him and Murray, and explained that Murray and Lurie had a casual conversation on the plane ride home.

Murray, 27, signed a five-year, $40 million contract that included $21 million guaranteed with the Eagles back in March. He stands to make base salaries of $1 million (2015) $7 million (2016), $7.5 million (2017), $7.5 million (2018) and $7.5 million (2019) over the remainder of the agreement.

This season, Murray has ran for 569 yards on 163 carries (3.5 YPC) to go along with 39 receptions for 295 yards receiving and five total touchdowns for the Eagles. Pro Football Focus has Murray rated as the No. 60 running back out of 67 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Murray’s future with the Eagles as the news is available.
