Patriots Sign RB Trey Williams To Practice Squad, Promote LB Eric Martin

The New England Patriots signed RB Trey Williams to their practice squad and promoted LB Eric Martin to the active roster on Saturday, according to Mike Reiss.

Williams, 22, wound up signing on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M a few days after this year’s NFL draft. He was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but was later added to their practice squad.

The Cowboys signed Williams off of the Redskins practice squad a few weeks ago before being waived and later claimed by the Patriots.

New England cut Williams loose a few days ago, so there was a chance he could be added to their taxi squad as long as he cleared waivers.

Williams has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Martin, 24, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in New Orleans before later joining the Browns.

The Patriots signed him to a future/reserve contract in February, but he wound up being waived just a week into the season. Since then, Martin has been on and off of the team’s practice squad.

This season, Martin has appeared in three games and recorded two tackles for the Patriots.
