Bears OC Adam Gase A “Favorite” For Lions’ Coaching Job?

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, citing league sources, reports that Bears OC Adam Gase could be considered the “favorite” to be hired as the Lions’ next head coach, assuming they fire Jim Caldwell in the coming weeks.

La Canfora mentions that not only did Gase begin his coaching career with Detroit, but he’s still close to several members of the Lions’ front office.

It’s worth mentioning that Gase is reportedly held in high esteem by former NFL GM Ernie Acorsi, who is helping to lead the potential search for a new Lions’ GM and head coach.

Gase was expected to be a top coaching candidate last year, and while he did interview for a few jobs, he wound up accepting an offensive coordinator role with the Bears.

This season, Gase has done a really impressive job with the Bears’ offense and has Jay Cutler playing much better than anyone anticipated.

La Canfora believes Gase would be a perfect fit for Lions QB Matthew Stafford. It’s also worth mentioning that Gase is close with recently-promoted Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter, so there’s a chance that Cooter could be retained, even if Gase is hired.

We’ll have more regarding Gase and the Lions’ as the news is available.
