Bills GM Doug Whaley Reportedly On “Very Solid Ground”

Sources have told Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that Bills GM Doug Whaley is on “very solid ground” and has a better chance to receive an extension that get fired.

“I am told, contrary to what most people think, he is on solid ground,” Rapoport said. “In fact, heading into the final year of his contract, I’m told an extension is far more likely than him getting fired. The Pegulas, the new owners of the Buffalo Bills, think of him very fondly and he is in lockstep with coach Rex Ryan.”

On top of that, Whaley reportedly has support of ownership, which certainly can’t hurt his chances.

Last week, there was a report that Whaley was at odds with the coaching staff over several key issues, and it appeared as though he was likely headed for a showdown with Ryan and his assistants during the offseason, so Rapoport’s info comes in direct contrast to this report.

There has been speculation that Terry Pegula could try to bring in a football czar to run the team, which would likely lead to Whaley getting pushed out.

However, there appears to be a better chance than some anticipate of Whaley returning to Buffalo in 2016.

We’ll have more regarding potential changes to the Bills’ organization as the news is available.
