Jason Pierre-Paul Will Have More Surgery On His Hand, Hoping To Return To Giants

Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul told reporters that he will need to undergo more surgeries on his hand that was damaged in a fireworks incident this summer, per Ralph Vacchiano.

Pierre-Paul said that the procedure would be to his right middle finger, and would be designed to improve his grip, per Paul Schwartz.

JPP did, however, make it clear that he wants to return to the Giants in 2016, and is still hoping to finish his career with the team.

I want to be here next year,” Pierre-Paul said, per Schwartz. “I would like to finish my career here.

David Chao points out that the surgery on JPP’s hand isn’t a setback and often required in order to improve maximize hand function.

Regarding the possibility of being franchised, Pierre-Paul said (per Ebenezer Samuel): “If they do it again it is what it is. At the end of the day it is what it is.”

Pierre-Paul, 26, wound up receiving the Giants’ franchise tag during the offseason, but because he suffered serious injury to his hand, the two parties later renegotiated a one-year deal worth up to $8.71 million based on incentives.

In 2015, Pierre-Paul recorded 20 tackles, a sack, two fumble recoveries and fouor pass defenses over the course of seven games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 51 qualifying players.
