NFL Rumors: Mario Williams, Colts, Cowboys, & Titans

Mario Williams

An anonymous Bills teammate tells Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News that DE Mario Williams has been giving “zero effort” and has “totally checked out” this season.

“It’s been clear to me that Mario doesn’t care about anybody but himself,” the teammate said. “He followed that up by not giving any effort during the season and complaining about the scheme instead of manning up and saying he played like crap and doesn’t care.

Williams’ teammate took it a step further by saying that they could have five solid players for the price of Williams.

“Those guys have to be your team leaders and bell cows,” the player said. “To not give a crap like that shows why teams need to think twice before investing that much in one guy. We could easily have five solid players contributing than one guy who doesn’t give a (expletive).”

Colts

Sources tell Bob Kravitz of WTHR that Colts GM Ryan Grigson has been a “terrible meddler” this season.

Grigson is reportedly much more involved with the coaching staff than Bill Polian was, and has been dictating who should be playing.

According to Kravitz, Grigson insisted that the coaching staff play Trent Richardson, despite his weight issues and lack of production because he was concerned with creating the narrative that it was a good trade.

“The culture here now is the worst I’ve ever seen it,” a source said told Kravitz.

Cowboys

Cowboys executive vice president/COO Stephen Jones told Albert Breer earlier in the week that HC Jason Garrett is safe, while adding that “change isn’t always the right answer.

He’s safe,” Jones said over the phone early Tuesday night. “Change isn’t always the right answer. We’re not big believers in it. Jason, a year ago, everyone thought he hung the moon. That’s the terrible thing about this business: You take one year, and change everything. This doesn’t faze us, it won’t faze us.

“We’re totally in with Jason. We’re totally in with our staff.

Jones confirmed that taking a quarterback in round one is certainly something they’ll consider.

“Yeah, we gotta look at that,” Jones said. “Obviously, it’s a bigger deal now, with Tony injured. And I’m sure he’d understand it. But if we draft the guy (in the first round), we’re drafting him to watch. And that’s the hard thing. He could be watching for three years, but that’s not all bad. It can be a good thing for them. Tony got to watch for a long time — it helped him. Steve Young, Aaron Rodgers, players like that — guys that have stepped in and played great — got to watch.”

Titans

  • According to Albert Breer, the Titans job should be an attractive option for head coaches in the coming weeks now that they have a young quarterback in place in Marcus Mariota.
  • The one issue for Tennessee is the questions regarding ownership.
  • The fact that they have an unconventional ownership setup could factor into whether coaching are willing to take the job over other opportunities.
  • In Regards to Chip Kelly possibly taking the job, Breer mentions that Kelly’s personnel executive Ed Marynowitz has a strong relationship current Titans GM Ruston Webster.
