Chargers HC Mike McCoy Likely Coaching Final Game

After speaking with multiple sources around the NFL, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports has come to the conclusion that Chargers HC Mike McCoy is likely coaching his final game with the team.

There has been talk for a few months now that the Chargers could move on from McCoy after what has been a very disappointing 2015 season. San Diego has dealt with injuries, but there’s no question that the team has taken a big step back since they posted winning records in each of the past two years.

If McCoy ends up being let go, Mike Garafolo mentions that he’ll likely be in demand as an offensive coordinator.

Earlier in the day, Kevin Acee of the Union Tribune wrote that it’s time for the Chargers to start a new era and replace McCoy as their head coach.

Acee listed Saints HC Sean Payton, UCLA HC Jim Mora, Bengals OC Hue Jackson, Patriots DC Matt Patricia and Jaguars assistant HC Doug Marrone as intriguing possibilities for the Chargers to consider should they have an opening.

Since taking the Chargers job in 2013, McCoy has led them to a record of 22-25 (46.8 percent) including one playoff win. He’s posted back-to-back seasons with a 9-7 record, but they’re off to a 2-6 start in 2015.

We’ll have more regarding the Chargers and McCoy’s future as the news is available.
