49ers Keeping Trent Baalke As GM

Update:

49ers CEO Jed York confirmed that they are retaining GM Trent Baalke, who will be tasked with finding the team’s next head coach.

York also released the following statement regarding their decision to fire HC Jim Tomsula:

———-

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that the 49ers are expected to keep Trent Baalke in place as the team’s GM. However, the same can’t be said for HC Jim Tomsula, who is expected to be fired.

Florio mentions that if the 49ers do, in fact, end up firing Tomsula, it would be a “significant embarrassment” for the organization, given that they pushed Jim Harbaugh out just a year ago and hand picked Tomsula as his replacement.

According to Florio, the 49ers will need to make a splash head-coaching hire in order regain the confidence and trust of the fanbase.

Interestingly enough, Florio suggests Chip Kelly as an intriguing possibility who could help them try to get Colin Kaepernick back on track.

Former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Holmgren has continuously expressed interest in the job, and Florio believes he would at least give the fanbase a reason to think they’ll turn things around.

We’ll have more regarding the 49ers as the news is available.

  1. Jed York is a good kid and wants to do the right thing . However , he has the bad habit of listening to the wrong people who give him bad advice and thus he ends up doing the wrong thing.
Trent Baalke is an idiot !!
He ran off one of the very best coaches in America . Then he tells every candidate for the job that, not only must he keep Tomsula, but promote him to DC .
When they couldn’t get anybody to take the job they give it to Tomsula , who hadn’t even been a coordinator , then fire him after one year.
To top it all off , brain donor Baalke keeps his job !!!!
And little Jed goes on way, blithely unaware that he has just driven another nail in the coffim of a once great franchise .

  2. As a long time fan of that team (not organisation) I’ve seen ownership make continuous questionable moves one after another with the only solid move that management making was hiring Jim Harbaugh. No mater who is fired or hired, no ones going to want to deal with the ownership total control over football operations. That being said, this is one of the worse ownerships in the NFL. Starting to believe the Harbaugh signing was just to get the team good enough to build a state of the art stadium for the Super Bowl to generate publicity and capital gains. God bless the fan base.
