Saints Could Target Doug Marrone As A Replacement To Sean Payton?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that if the Saints do, in fact, move on from Sean Payton as their head coach, a name to keep an eye on is Jaguars assistant Doug Marrone.

Jay Glazer reported this morning that Saints GM Mickey Loomis will meet with Payton on Monday to discuss the situation. Glazer added that the Saints could be willing to move Payton if some team was willing to part with a second-round pick.

The Colts, Giants and 49ers have all come up in recent days as speculative options for Payton.

If the job is available, Marrone will likely be on the Saints’ short list.

Marrone appeared to have a decent amount of interest right now, as his name has come up as an option for the Browns and Dolphins.

Last year, Marrone opted out of his contract with the Bills, but was forced to take an assistant role with the Jaguars after teams went in a different direction with their head-coaching vacancies.

In two years with the Bills, Marrone led them to a record of 15-17 (46.9), which included a 9-7 record in his final season.

We’ll have more regarding the Saints as the news is available.
