Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson Suffers Broken Leg

Update:

The New York Jets announced that DE Muhammad Wilkerson suffered a broken leg during Sunday’s loss to the Bills.

Jets impending free agent DE Muhammad Wilkerson was carted off to the locker room with an ankle injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Bills.

Wilkerson wasn’t able to put any weight on his injured leg and was clearly in a lot of pain after he was bent awkwardly.

Assuming it’s just an ankle injury, this would be good news for Wilkerson, who is in line to be one of the most sought after free agents in this year’s market.

There’s been some talk that the Jets could apply their franchise tag to him, and prevent him from departing in free agency.

For what it’s worth, the franchise tag would run the Jets around $15 million for the 2016 season.

Wilkerson, 26, is already among the best defensive linemen in the NFL and has clearly earned for a big raise after the contracts signed by marquee players in recent months.

This season, Wilkerson has recorded 59 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and six pass defenses over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 defensive end in a 3-4 system out of 57 qualifying players.

We have Wilkerson listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 2016 Free Agents list
