Titans GM Rumors

Update:

Jason La  Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Buccaneers Director of Player Personnel Jon Robinson is the “front-runner” for the Titans GM position.

• According to La Canfora, a announcement could come as soon as tomorrow.
• Alex Marvez reports that the Titans have begun telling GM candidates that they’re out of the running.

Robinson is another executive who worked with Bill Belichick in New England. He spent the majority of his career with the Patriots before joining the Buccaneers a few years ago.

The list of other candidates for the job includes:

• Jaguars Director of Pro Personnel Chris Polian
• Chiefs personnel director Chris Ballard
• Broncos GM Ted Sundquist
• Giants’ college scouting director Marc Ross 
• Former Lions GM Martin Mayhew

• According to La Canfora, Jaguars Director of Pro Personnel Chris Polian, who has ties to some on the Titans’ staff, could be a guy to watch.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that Vikings assistant GM George Paton won’t interview for the Titans’ GM vacancy.

According to Marvez, the Vikings blocked the Titans from meeting with Paton until after they were out of the playoffs. However, it appears as though Paton has elected to remain in Minnesota, despite their interest.

• Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Titans are, in fact, interviewing Chiefs director of football operations Chris Ballard for their GM position. According to Rapoport, Ballard is the Titans last scheduled interview at this point in time.
• Citing a long-time NFL source, Jason Cole reports that the Titans are expected to conclude their GM search on Monday after meeting with four candidates for the position.
• Interestingly enough, Cole says there is a fifth candidate for the job, who has yet to be identified.

Tennessee’s plan is to hold off on hiring a head coach until they’ve settled on a GM and have a set structure in order to quell any concerns about the perceived dysfunction of the organization.

Tom Pelissero reports that the Titans have scheduled an interview with Chiefs personnel director Chris Ballard for their GM position on Monday.

The Tennessee Titans announced Friday that they interviewed Jaguars Director of Pro Personnel Chris Polian and Buccaneers Director of Player Personnel Jon Robinson on Friday for their GM position.

Yesterday, they interviewed former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist and Giants’ college scouting director Marc Ross, so they appear to be making decent progress in their search.

The Titans have a pretty decent list of candidates including:

• Former Lions GM Martin Mayhew
• Vikings assistant GM George Paton
• Colts VP of Football Operations Jimmy Raye III
• Titans college scouting director Blake Beddingfield

• ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Titans have requested permission to interview Jaguars Director of Pro Personnel Chris Polian.

• Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta has turned down the Titans request to interview him for their GM position. .
• Josina Anderson reports that the Titans have scheduled their interview with Giants’ college scouting director Marc Ross for Thursday.

Jason La Canfora reports the Titans will give “serious” consideration to giving the general manager position to current college scouting director Blake Beddingfield.

Canfora goes on to mention that selecting Beddingfield could lead to the Titans retaining interim HC Mike Mularkey for another season.

• According to Albert Breer, the Titans are  “aiming high” in targeting Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta for their GM vacancy.
• The Titans have already scheduled an interview with the Giants’ college scouting director Marc Ross.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Titans are hoping to interview Colts VP of Football Operations Jimmy Raye III on Wednesday for their GM vacancy.

• Albert Breer of NFL Media reported earlier that the Titans are “aiming high” and targeting Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta for their GM position.

DeCosta is a popular name every year, but he has continuously told teams that he isn’t interested in leaving the Ravens, so it would be surprising to see him take the job if it’s offered.

The Titans have already scheduled an interview with Giants college scouting director Marc Ross.

• La Canfora adds that Ross is being considered for several jobs.

Tennessee formally announced that they’ve parted ways with GM Ruston Webster on Monday.

This is the first interview the Titans have scheduled, even though new president Steve Underwood confirmed that they’ve been in contact with a number of candidates since they announced that the position is open.

Numerous reports have said that questions remain about the Titans’ ownership structure, which could ultimately impact the team’s GM and head-coaching search. Some have said that this could lead to the Titans retaining interim HC Mike Mularkey for at least another season.

Even so, the Titans have a young quarterback to build around and the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL, so I’m sure there will be a decent amount of interest in both jobs.
