NFL Notes: Los Angeles, Dolphins, Giants, & Packers

Los Angeles

Jason Cole reports that two NFL teams have submitted different resolutions on how to solve three-team race to L.A.

One idea from the Cowboys includes the Rams moving to Inglewood while another team proposed delaying the entire process, according to Cole.

  • Jason La Canfora reports that the Rams, Chargers and Raiders have received the final draft of “certifications” today that must be agreed to and signed in order to be eligible to move to Los Angeles.
  • Should any of those teams fail to sign the certifications, they will not be considered for a move to L.A., according to La Canfora.
  • La Canfora adds that one distinct possibility could have one team move to L.A. now, which he believes could be the Chargers, while construction begins on a two-team stadium.
  • The second team in this scenario could get the required votes at a later time and move to L.A. by 2017, per La Canfora.

Dolphins

  • Alex Marvez reports that if the Dolphins do, in fact, end up hiring Adam Gase as their next head coach, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them hire Bengals DBs coach Vance Joseph as their defensive coordinator.
  • Armando Salguero reports that Bengals OC Hue Jackson does not expect to meet with the Dolphins now that they appear to be close to hiring Gase.

Giants

  • Giants owner John Mara said that they want DE Jason Pierre-Paul back next season before adding “it depends on what the price is.” (Ralph Vacchiano)
  • Mara added: “We have to see more before he gets paid like the top free agents in this league.” (Ralph Vacchiano)

Packers

Packers impending free agent WR James Jones said he’d like to finish his career with the Packers. However, he recognizes that he could be forced to test the free agent market again in 2016.

“I feel like I did my job helping this team win some ballgames,” Jones said, via ESPN.com. “I wouldn’t mind staying here and finishing my career here. But expectation-wise, that’s not what I expected. I kind of felt, ‘You’re here on a one-year deal; Jordy comes back next year; they’ve got a bright young star in Davante, drafted Ty, got Randall,’ so my expectation was not to really fight for a contract here. I’d love to finish it out, but at the same time, we’ll see.

“I just love playing football, man. I still feel like I’ve got a lot of football left in me. But we’ll see. I’ve hit free agency twice and gotten the back end of the stick twice. Hopefully this time I get at least the middle.
