Bears Expected To Promote QBs Coach Dowell Loggains To Offensive Coordinator

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Bears QBs coach Dowell Loggains is considered the heir apparent to Adam Gase, who just agreed to become the next head coach of the Dolphins.

Rapoport mentions that Loggains is “very close” to Bears QB Jay Cutler, which should help them make the transition relatively seamlessly this offseason.

A high-ranking Bears source explained to Rapoport earlier in the week that they knew Gase was gone and they’re happy for him with his new opportunity.

Rapoport’s source added that they have been expecting to install Loggains as offensive coordinator quickly.

Last year, the Bears elected to hire Loggains in hope of turning Cutler around, and for the most part, Cutler’s 2015 season was an improvement. Now it appears as though the Bears are likely to keep Cutler in place as their quarterback, even though many anticipated he’d be cut in 2016.

We’ll have more regarding the Bears’ offensive coordinator position as the news is available.
