Bengals Have No Plans To Fire HC Marvin Lewis

Update:

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Bengals have no plans to move on from HC Marvin Lewis at this point in time.

Last night, speculation surfaced that Cincinnati may consider the idea of firing Lewis after the team lost in disastrous fashion to the Steelers. This would allow the Bengals to retain one of their coordinators Hue Jackson or Paul Guenther, who are both being considered for head-coaching jobs.

We’ll have more regarding the Bengals and potential changes as the news is available.

Following Saturday night’s crazy finish in which the Bengals appeared to have the game locked up before a series of events led to a game-winning field goal from the Steelers, speculation is surfacing that the Bengals could consider making a change at head coach and replacing Marvin Lewis.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, if the Bengals were to make head-coaching change, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther would be the top internal candidate.

La Canfora adds that Guenther might turn out to be the top overall candidate for the job, mainly because the Bengals don’t want to lose him. Cincinnati reportedly views Guenther as a Mike Zimmer in the making.

Meanwhile, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wonders if the Bengals would consider pulling a Dirk Koetter” and attempting to replace Lewis with OC Hue Jackson, who is considered by many to be one of, if not, the hottest coaching candidates available.

Jackson will begin meeting with teams on Sunday including the Browns and 49ers, so if the Cincinnati and owner Mike Brown, who has been extremely loyal to Lewis during his time with the team, wants to promote Jackson, he’d need to make a move sooner than later.

Guenther is also generating interest from a few teams as well including the Browns and Eagles.

Lewis, 57, is in his 13th year with the Bengals and has led them to a record of 112 and 94 (54.3 percent) including seven playoff appearences. However, he has yet to win a single playoff game, even though they’ve played in five straight.
