Redskins Veteran DL Jason Hatcher Contemplating Retirement

Redskins veteran DL Jason Hatcher told reporters after Sunday’s loss to the Packers that he has been contemplating retirement this season.

I’ve been thinking lately about this being my last year, you know, retiring” said Hatcher, via CSN Mid Atlantic. “One thing I’ve got to pray about. [GM Scot McCloughan] said he wanted me around.”

Hatcher did, however, say that he still loves the game, and plans to sit down with his family and make a decision regarding his future.

I still love the game, I’ve just got to pray about it and see what my family said about it,” said Hatcher. “He’s [McCloughan] a great guy, I’m glad I met him. He believed in me as a leader and as a player. It’s hard to not come back. But at the same time I’ve got to do what’s best for me and the family.”

Hatcher, 33, is in the second year of his four-year, $27.5 million contract that included $10.5 million guaranteed. He made a base salary of $3 million for the 2015 and will make another $6.5 million next year.

In 2015, Hatcher recorded 20 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense for Washington. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 57 qualifying players.
