Chargers Sign CFL LB Dexter McCoil To Futures Contract

The San Diego Chargers officially signed CFL ILB Dexter McCoil to a future/reserve contract on Wednesday.

  • The Chargers announced the move last night.

This is the Chargers’ 10th player who has signed a futures contract. The other players include:

  1. P Kasey Redfern 
  2. DB Richard Crawford
  3. QB Brad Sorensen
  4. TE Tim Semisch
  5. DT Chuka Ndulue
  6. WR Isaiah Burse
  7. DE Ben Gardner
  8. WR Torrence Allen
  9. G Michael Huey

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and training camp.

McCoil, 24, wound up going undrafted out of Tulsa back in 2013. He wound up signing on with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2014 and played safety for them during his two years in the CFL.

In 2015, McCoil recorded 78 tackles, two sacks, and three interceptions for the Eskimos.
