Multiple sources tell Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle that the Texans will likely move on from RB Arian Foster this offseason and allow him to sign on with a team of his choosing.
Foster’s 2015 season ended with him suffering an Achilles tear and he carries a high cap figure in 2016.
Texans owner Bob McNair mentioned that they plan to wait and see how healthy he is before making any decision about his future with the team.
“Well, we’ll have to see how healthy he is,” McNair said. “But until we know that, there’s really not much you can think about.”
Assuming he’s healthy, I’m sure there would be a market for his services. However, he’ll be hard pressed to make the same kind of money moving forward, even with the cap increase.
Foster, 29, has one year remaining on his five-year, $43.5 million contract that included $20.75 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2016 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, cutting Foster would free up $6,625,000 in cap space while also creating $2,300,000 in dead money.
In 2015, Foster ran for 163 yards on 63 carries (2.6 YPC) to go along with 22 receptions for 227 yards receiving and and three touchdowns.
