Ray Horton & Leslie Frazier Defensive Coordinator Candidates For Browns

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that new Browns HC Hue Jackson is targeting Titans DC Ray Horton to run his defense.

  • Mary Kay Cabot reports that former Buccaneers DC Leslie Frazier is also a candidate for the Browns’ defensive coordinator job.

However, it remains uncertain whether the Titans will grant Horton permission to depart for the same job with the Browns.

Tennessee hired Horton a few years ago when they brought in Ken Whisenhunt as their head coach. Last year, the Titans bolstered their defensive coaching staff by hiring long-time Steelers DC Dick LeBeau, who could be a candidate to take over for Horton in the event he departs.

In 2015, Horton’s unit ranked No. 15 in total yards allowed, No. 7 in pass yards allowed, No. 18 in rushing yards allowed, and 27th in points allowed.

The Buccaneers elected to not pick up Frazier’s option after they parted ways with HC Lovie Smith.

During the season, Smith elected to take over play-calling for the Buccaneers after the unit really struggled the previous year. However, even with Smith calling plays, the Bucs’ defense was still a disappointment in 2015, and likely played a big factor in the team dismissing him in recent weeks.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns search for a defensive coordinator as the news is available.
