NFL Notes: Browns, Cowboys, Eagles, Rams, & Steelers

Browns

Albert Breer reports that the Browns were able to land Hue Jackson as their new head coach for a few reasons.

The first of which is that they made it clear that he was their No. 1 target. Beyond that, the front office was able to sell Jackson on their new front office structure with executive vice president Sashi Brown able to give him an example of how things would work.

To fully sell Jackson on the job, the Browns gave Jackson a direct line to the owner Jimmy Haslem.

  • Jason La Canfora reports that former Dolphins DC Kevin Coyle is being considered for the Browns’ defensive coordinator position.

Cowboys

  • Alabama RB Derrick Henry told reporters that if given the choice, he would want to be drafted by the Cowboys. (Christopher Walsh)

Eagles

According to Albert Breer, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie elected to make the organizational changes a few weeks ago because he didn’t like the environment in his building.

Breer mentions that Lurie’s decision to have Don Smolenski and Howie Roseman handle their head-coaching search was a clear indication that he wanted to go back to a similar situation as the one he had with Andy Reid.

This makes sense considering that the Eagles ultimately settled on Andy Reid’s offensive coordinator, Doug Pederson.

Rams

  • According to Albert Breer, the Rams had already begun preliminary construction on the Inglewood project, even before they gained approval of the NFL to move to Los Angeles.
  • The Rams are planning to be in L.A. by the beginning of organized team activities in May, if not sooner.
  • They’re reportedly prepared to build a temporary/permanent facility for the team and have already begun looking for a site to put it.
  • Breer mentions that they want to be in L.A. to run their draft and all associated events.

Steelers

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Steelers coaches Joey Porter and Mike Munchak were each fined $10,000 for their actions during last weekend’s game.
