Jets Have Considered Signing Ray Rice, But Don’t See It Happening

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan mentioned during an interview on WFAN 660 that they’ve discussed the idea of signing RB Ray Rice.

However, Maccagnan added that he doesn’t see it happening, despite the fact that they’ve considered bringing him in.

You know, we’ve talked about that at various points in time, but I’d probably say that would be … I’d have to sit down and talk with Todd (Bowles) and Woody (Johnson), but I don’t foresee that at this point in time,” Maccagnan said, per Rich Cimini.

The Jets will be in the market for a running back, given that Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, and Stevan Ridley are all set to be free agents in the coming months.

Rice, 29, last appeared in an NFL game back in 2013 when he ran for 660 yards on 214 carries (3.1 YPC) to go along with 58 receptions for 321 yards receiving and four total touchdowns.

It’s worth mentioning that Rice dealt with a hip injury that year, which could explain his dip in production. However, Pro Football Focus still had him rated as the worst qualifying running back in the league that year.

We’ll have more regarding teams that could be interested in Rice as the news is available.
