Veteran TE Ben Watson Says He’s Hoping To Re-Sign With Saints

Saints veteran TE Ben Watson mentioned that he had a good meeting with GM Mickey Loomis and HC Sean Payton and would like to re-sign with New Orleans during the offseason.

“I had a good meeting with Mickey (Loomis) and Sean (Payton), and we talked about the season like they do with everybody,” Watson said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “They’ll make their decisions with personnel whenever the time comes. I’m at a position where I’m healthy — thank God. I didn’t have any surgeries.

“I enjoyed playing this season. I enjoy the city of New Orleans. If it’s New Orleans, I would love to be here. We’re already settled. We’ve got five kids. I don’t feel like moving people everywhere. This is a great place for us and I enjoy playing here.”

Watson added that he still enjoys playing football, despite being in his mid-thirties.

“I still enjoy playing football,” Watson said. “I will take the opportunities as they come. I’m kind of in a different place than I was the last couple times I was in free agency, whereas now I’m a little more relaxed about it. I’m waiting to see what doors open and what doors close.”

Watson, 35, is coming off of an impressive 2015 season and is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2015, Watson appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 74 receptions for 825 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 56 tight end out of 73 qualifying players.
