Rams Deny Report They’ve Reached An Impasse In L.A. Talks With Chargers

Update:

Rams COO Kevin Demoff denied the recent report that they’ve reached an impasse in talks with the Chargers regarding the two teams moving to Los Angeles.

The Steve Hartman story is completely false,” Demoff told Pro Football Talk by email Tuesday.

Multiple league sources have told Mike Florio that Rams owner Stan Kroenke has provided assurances that he’ll cooperate with the Chargers.

Beyond that, the NFL reportedly has the power to squeeze Kroenke by preventing him from hosting Super Bowls and other things if he tries to take the L.A. market for himself.

Steve Hartman of XTRA Sports 1360 spoke to a Rams official who mentioned that Chargers and Rams have reached an impasse in talks to have both teams move to Los Angeles and play in the Inglewood stadium.

According to the report, the biggest issues in talks between the two teams is finding a business relationship that works for both sides.

The Rams have given the Chargers the option between either being a tenant or an equity partner in the Los Angeles project.

This is interesting considering that Jason Cole reported just a few hours ago that the Rams and Chargers are still in ongoing negotiations.

Beyond that, Jason La Canfora said that talks between the two teams have been going on for nearly a week straight, but they are making progress towards an agreement.

Although, it sounds like there are still some serious concerns that need to be addressed.

It’s worth mentioning that the Chargers would need to make a decision soon if they want to be in L.A. for the 2016 season.

There is a pretty big incentive for Rams owner Stan Kroenke to get an agreement in place with the Chargers sooner than later, as this would allow the Rams to begin selling naming rights, club seats, PSLs, and sponsorships at a temporary stadium until 2017 if they have an agreement with a second team to join them in Inglewood.

The one aspect of this situation is whether Chargers owner Dean Spanos will elect to be just a tenant or a partner in the Inglewood project. To be a partner, Spanos would reportedly need $500 million or more, according to La Canfora.

The possibility exists that the Raiders could move to Los Angeles, but this would require the Chargers to pass on the opportunity, which doesn’t appear to be something they’re willing to do right now.

The L.A. Coliseum is reportedly open to hosting multiple teams in needed, so that could be a temporary home for the Chargers and Rams.

We’ll have more regarding the Chargers possibly moving to L.A. as the news is available.
