Panthers Sign OT Donald Hawkins To Futures Deal

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they’ve signed OT Donald Hawkins to a future/reserve contract.

The Panthers previously signed seven players to future’s deals including:

  1. G David Yankey
  2. WR Cobi Hamilton
  3. G Tyler Larsen
  4. C Matt Masifilo
  5. DE Larry Webster
  6. DT Eric Crume
  7. CB Travell Dixon

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and training camp.

Hawkins, 23, originally signed on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Texas back in May of last year. He was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster, but was later claimed the Browns.

His stay in Cleveland was short lived as he was once again cut and claimed off waivers by the Cowboys. Dallas elected to cut him loose shortly after this year’s draft, but he was claimed by the Dolphins before later being waived from their practice squad.

The 49ers elected to sign him to their practice squad towards the end of the season.

Hawkins has yet to appear in an NFL game.
