Broncos OLB Von Miller Looking To Be Highest Paid Defensive Player, Likely Headed For Franchise Tag

Jason Cole of B/R reports that it’s becoming more and more apparent that Broncos OLB Von Miller wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, topping the $114 million deal signed by Dolphins DT Ndamukong Suh last year.

According to Cole, numerous teams are hoping that Miller reaches the free agent market this year, as the Broncos will need to figure out how to address Miller and QB Brock Osweiler.

However, a source close to Miller tells Cole that the Broncos will ultimately franchise him in the coming months.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard about Miller wanting to become the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, as Rand Getlin of NFL Media mentioned as much a few months ago.

Miller, 26, played out his four-year, $21 million rookie contract, and is playing out the 2015 season under the fifth-year option the Broncos picked up last year.

This season, Miller has appeared all 16 games and recorded 35 tackles, 11 sacks, three fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense out of 53 qualifying players.
