NFL Notes: 49ers, Bills, Browns, & Buccaneers

49ers

• According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, there wasn’t really any interest in HC Chip Kelly outside of the 49ers.
• Rapoport mentions that there was some concern around the league from GMs that hiring Kelly could open the door to him eventually replacing them as GM down the line.
• It’s worth mentioning that Kelly has said that he intends to focus strictly on coaching and will leave personnel to GM Trent Baalke.

Bills

• According to Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News, North Dakota State QBs coach mentioned that the Bills visited their campus to see QB Carson Wentz as much as any team in the league.
• Dunne adds that there’s been interest from the Bills in Wentz for a while now.

Browns

New Browns HC Hue Jackson mentioned that he spent time at the Senior Bowl with North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz, and came away impressed.

“This just starts the process of getting to know these young players,” Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “It’s just phase one of the process. It’s just good to be able to talk to as many guys as we could. It was good to talk to him and find out a little bit about him and I’m sure I’ll get an opportunity to find out a little more as we go. . . .

“It’s always hard when you’re sitting in the stands watching these young guys, but he has a lot of the characteristics that you look for. Again, it’s just so early in this process and until you can really study them and get to know them will you really be able to make a sound judgment.”

Buccaneers

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht said he has no intention of trading backup QB Mike Glennon this offseason.

“I would hate to be in a position where your quarterback goes down for however many games it is and then you’re basically throwing the towel in, like a lot of teams did this year,” Licht said, via Scott Reynolds of PewterReport.com. “It wasn’t because they wanted to throw in the towel, that’s just the way it happened, without naming teams. Those were the same teams, a lot of them, that were inquiring about Mike Glennon at the time.”
