NFL Notes: Injuries, Bills, Falcons, & Rams

Injuries

The NFL released their injury data for the 2015 season on Friday. Here are some of the notable takeaways from their report:

• There were 271 diagnosed concussions in 2015, which is up from 206 the previous year.
• The No. 1 source of concussions was a hit from another helmet (92).
• Total ACL injuries come out to 56, which is up from 49 in 2014.
• MCL injuries also increased from 139 in 2014 to 170 in 2015.
• Interestingly enough, injuries during Sunday and Monday games actually decreased while injuries during Thursday night games increased.

Bills

Bills S Aaron Williams mentioned that how he holds up in training camp will determine if he continues his NFL career after he suffered a serious neck injury last year.

“No doubt in my mind [about trying to play],” Williams said, via BuffaloBills.com. “There’s never been a question. The thing was do I feel comfortable enough to come back? I told myself we’ll figure it out after next year’s training camp. After that first hit, if you feel like you can sustain those hits week in and week out, then continue to keep playing. But if it’s one of those where I hit it and it’s just like, ‘Man, this doesn’t look good,’ then I’ll have to reconsider.”

Falcons

• Joel Corry points out that the Falcons would pick up $2,362,500 of 2016 salary cap room by releasing veteran WR Roddy White.
• Should they designate him as a post-June 1 release, Atlanta could boost their savings to $4.25 million.

Rams

Rams GM Les Snead wouldn’t rule out the possibility of using a high pick on a quarterback this year.

“You definitely have to prepare that you might do it,” Snead said, via Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. “Sometimes with QBs we’ve seen some very successful ones go in the second round, and the third round seems to be hot of late. I’m thinking of Russell Wilson. I’m thinking of Kirk Cousins [fourth round].

“So the thing about the draft is, because it’s become a nice entertainment segment, . . . there’s so much attention on the first round, especially at the QB position, that sometimes the third-round QB, it’s ‘Oh, he’s a third-round QB.’ But the long story short on all of that is we’ll definitely scout QBs, and we’ll definitely look at the trade market and free-agent market.”

• Regarding restricted free agent QB Case Keenum, Snead said: “We’re not going to let him go somewhere else.”
