Chris Ivory Isn’t Sure If He’ll Be Back With Jets Due To Their Cap Situation

Jets impending free agent Chris Ivory said he’d like to be back in New York next year, but he isn’t sure if they’ll be able to re-sign him to due to their cap issues.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen,” Ivory told Conor Orr of Around The NFL on Friday. “I would like to stay in New York if we reach an agreement. But I know the cap space they’re working with and everything and the other guys they have to get signed or want to get signed back. But if it doesn’t work out, I’m just looking forward to continuing my career elsewhere if it happens to go that way.”

Ivory said that he has spoken to them about a return, but it’s clear that their cap situation is likely to impact a potential return to the Jets.

I was able to speak with them,” Ivory said. “They want to bring me back but like I said, I think it’s about the cap space. That’s going to be the biggest factor as to whether I’m back or not.”

The Jets will have to decide on other running backs like Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley, as they too are in position to test the open market in the coming months.

Ivory, 27, played out his three-year, $10 million deal with the Jets and will be among the best available running backs in this year’s free agent class.

In 2015, Ivory appeared in 15 games for the Jets and ran for 1,070 yards on 247 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 30 receptions for 217 yards receiving and eight total touchdowns.
