Rams Have Had Internal Discussions About Adding Peyton Manning If He Wants To Keep Playing

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Rams have had internal discussions about signing QB Peyton Manning should he want to play another season.

The expectation around the league, according to Schefter, is that Manning won’t be back with the Broncos in 2016, even if he decides to not retire.

Los Angeles is still trying to figure out their plans for the quarterback position, but they are monitoring the Manning situation.

Scheter takes this as a sign that Manning could have some options next year if he wants to continue his career.

The Rams are in a tough position, as releasing QB Nick Foles would produce a sizable cap hit for them in 2016. They’ve said that they would like to re-sign restricted free agent Case Keenum and they used a third-round pick on Sean Mannion last year.

However, it appears as though they plan to consider all of their available options at the position this offseason.

There has been a good of speculation about Manning’s future after this season, which reportedly includes the possibility of taking a front office role with a team or possibly joining an ownership group.

Manning, 39, is in the fourth year of his five-year, $96 million contract that includes $18 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $15 million this season to go along with another $19 million in 2016.

In 2015, Manning appeared in 10 games and thrown for 2,249 yards while completing 59.8 percent of his passes to go along with nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Manning’s future as the news is available.
