NFL Notes: Mexico City, Dolphins, Eagles, Packers, & Redskins

Mexico City

  • John McClain reports that the Texans and Raiders are expected to play a game in Mexico City next year.

Dolphins

Eagles

Eagles executive Howie Roseman offered an explanation for why they decided to table their search for a new personnel executive.

“Just by the nature of the time of year, teams aren’t necessarily going to be so aligned with [a comprehensive search],” Roseman said, via Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer,. “We’re looking at this as a long-term decision for us – not just a five-month decision. The candidates we looked at were good, but we also want to make sure we’re looking at all the good candidates that are available.”

Packers

Packers impending free agent QB Scott Tolzien said he’s hoping to secure an opportunity to compete for starting job.

“I feel like I’ve improved every year and played for two great organizations,” Tolzien said, via the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “I know there’s been a lot of backups in Green Bay that have gone on and been given the chance to start in other places. We’ll see what happens, but that would be great if it happened.”

The expectation has been that Green Bay will allow Tolzien to sign elsewhere and move forward with Brett Hundley as their backup.

Redskins

Redskins Bruce Allen told ESPN980 Wednesday that he’s confident they’ll be able to work out a long-term extension for QB Kirk Cousins.

“Kirk wants to be a Washington Redskin, and we want Kirk to be a Redskin,” Allen said, via the Washington Post. “It’ll work itself out.”

As for free agent RB Alfred Morris, Allen said that if he gets a great contract in free agency, they’ll applaud him and likely move on.

Free agency is going to be a great test for him,” Allen said. “If he gets a great contract, we’re going to applaud him. If not, we’ll see what happens with us.

  • John Keim of ESPN writes that the Redskins and S Dashon Goldson will try to work out either a restructured contract or an outright paycut this offseason that will reduce his massive $8 million cap figure.
