Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware Has No Plans To Retire

Broncos veteran OLB DeMarcus Ware mentioned following Sunday’s Super Bowl win over the Panthers that he has ” a lot of gas in the tank” and no plans to retire.

I got a lot of gas in the tank,” Ware replied, via NFL.com. “Von was the one that added the gas to the fire for me, so that’s why I’m playing the way I’m playing right now. I don’t think about retiring. God still wants me to play, that’s why I’m still doing what I’m doing.

“When I start bringing the cane out, you guys make sure that you tell me, ‘DeMarcus, it’s time to hang the cleats up.’

There was some speculation that Ware could retire if they won the Super Bowl, but it’s clear that this won’t be happening.

Ware, 33, has one year remaining on his three-year, $30 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $7 million for the 2016 season.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Broncos approach him regarding an extension to reduce his cap figure, which would allow them to retain some of their free agents.

In 2015, Ware appeared in 11 games and recorded 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense out of 53 qualifying players.
