Eagles & DT Fletcher Cox Closing In On An Extension?

Update:

Eagles DL Fletcher Cox indicated that they aren’t close to an agreement on a long-term extension, despite the recent report.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com reports that an agreement between the Eagles and DL Fletcher Cox is imminent on a contract extension that could include over $50 million guaranteed.

Philadelphia has been the most aggressive team in addressing their core players this offseason, as they’ve already locked up four players to extensions.

All indications have been that Cox and the Eagles would eventually get something done, so it appears as though there could be an announcement at some point in the near future.

Cox, 25, played out his four-year, $10.241 million rookie contract last year before the Eagles elected to pick up his fifth-year option. He’ll make a base salary of $7.799 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Cox appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles and recorded 71 tackles, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two recoveries and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 57 qualifying players.
