NFL Notes: Draft, Chargers, Colts, Giants, & Packers

Draft

  • Tony Pauline reports that Eastern Kentucky DE/OLB Noah Spence will not turn down interviews or visits requested by NFL teams, and is hoping to prove that his previous issues are behind him.
  • According to Pauline, scouts around the NFL view Indiana DT Darius Latham as one of the most underrated players at his position in this year’s draft class.
  • Florida S Keanu Neal is reportedly receiving late first-round grades from a few NFL teams while several others view Neal as the “best-looking safety in the draft,” according to Pauline.
  • Pauline adds that there’s some buzz around Stanford LB Blake Martinez and his overall performance from the Senior Bowl.

Chargers

  • According to Joel Corry, $16.5 million of Chargers QB Philip Rivers‘ 2016 base salary becomes fully guaranteed today.

Colts

  • The Colts announced that they’ve hired Morgan State coach Lee Hull as their receivers coach.

Giants

Dan Graziano of ESPN takes a loot at some notable players who could be cap casualties for the Giants this offseason.

  • Graziano can see WR Victor Cruz and Giants working out a pay cut from the $8 million he’s schedule to make in 2016 for him to be back with the team.
  • Another player who may have to accept a pay cut to be back with the team includes OT Will Beatty, unless the Giants want to move Ereck Flowers to right tackle.
  • According to Graziano, “there’s no chance” that the Giants will be willing to pay LB Jon Beason the kind of money he’s owed, which means he’s likely to be released.
  • In regards to veteran G Geoff Schwartz, Graziano believes the team could approach him about a restructured deal.

Packers

  • Rob Demovsky writes that the Packers no reason to think veteran OLB Julius Peppers won’t return for the 2016 season.
  • Instead, the Packers are reportedly operating under the assumption that he will return for the final year of his contract, and Demovsky adds that all indications are that they want him to return.
