Dolphins “Definitely” Want To Re-Sign RB Lamar Miller

According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins “definitely” want to re-sign impending free agent RB Lamar Miller this offseason.

In fact, new GM Chris Grier said Miller and DE Olivier Vernon are two players they would “love” have back in 2016.

“We drafted them. We know them. We’d love to have them back,” Grier said. “But the discussion is once the coaching staff evaluates and see how they fit, but they’re certainly players that we have great affection for and have done a great job for us, so we’ll see what happens.

Beasley mentions that the Dolphins are more “bullish” on Miller, but this will obviously come down to how much they’re willing to spend to re-sign him.

The expectation from league insiders is that Miller will command a contract that pays roughly $5 million a year, which would leave him atop the second tier of running backs in terms of salary.

However, testing the open market when there’s so much available cap space could lead to him securing even more money.

Miller, 24, played out the final year of his four-year, $2.58 million rookie contract that included a $486,000 signing bonus and is now in position to be one of the best available running backs in this year’s free agent class.

In 2015, Miller appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and ran for 872 yards on 194 carries (4.5 YPC) to go along with 47 receptions for 397 yards receiving and 10 total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 running back out of 68 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
