Giants Interested In DE Muhammad Wilkerson & WR Mohamed Sanu

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there has been a “fair amount of buzz” within the Giants’ organization about free agent DE Muhammad Wilkerson and WR Mohamed Sanu.

While Wilkerson fits an obvious need and the Giants have the kind of cap space to give him a massive contract, La Canfora admits that they would likely have to trade for him after the Jets use their franchise tag on him.

Even so, La Canfora says that both are among a small group of players viewed in the “most favorable terms” by the Giants’ brass.

In a potential trade, La Canfora believes Wilkerson could cost at least a first-round pick and possibly more.

As for an extension, which is something the Giants would need to take care upon trading for Wilkerson, La Canfora believes Marcell Dareus‘ new deal could be a comparable contract for the two parties to consider.

As for Sanu, La Canfora expects him to command around $5 million per year in his next contract.

Wilkerson, 26, is already among the best defensive linemen in the NFL and has clearly earned for a big raise after the contracts signed by marquee players in the past few years.

In 2015, Wilkerson recorded 59 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and six pass defenses over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 defensive end in a 3-4 system out of 57 qualifying players.

Sanu, 26, was taken in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2015, Sanu appeared in all 16 games and caught 33 passes for 394 yards receiving to go along with 71 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
