NFL Notes: Browns, Rams, & Ravens

Browns

  • Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Browns C Alex Mack will likely opt out of his contract unless the team can reach an agreement on a reworked deal in the coming weeks.
  • However, even if Mack were to opt out of his current deal, Cabot doesn’t rule out the possibility of him returning to Cleveland if they’re willing to offer him a market value deal.

Rams

Ravens

Jamison Hensley identifies the three contracts signed by CB Lardarius Webb, LT Eugene Monroe, and TE Dennis Pitta as the three deals that have the Ravens in a tough cap situation.

  • This group counts $25.9 million against the Ravens’ 2016 salary cap, but Hensley mentions that releasing them wouldn’t create much in terms of cap savings, as they would still carry $19 million in dead money.
  • Webb could be moved to safety and asked to take a pay cut that’s more in line with a typical safety contract.
  • As for Monroe, Hensley believes he could be a cap casualty or at least be asked to reduce his salary.
  • While Pitta has said he wants to continue his career, Hensley suggests designating him as a post-June 1 release, which would give them $5 million to work with in June.
