49ers & Alex Boone’s Agent To Meet At Combine, Deal Still Considered Unlikely Before Free Agency

Matt Barrows of Sacramento Bee reports that the 49ers and the agents for free agent OL Alex Boone will meet at the Combine next week.

However, Barrows considers it unlikely they will get a deal done before the start of free agency.

Barrows mentions that the 49ers have a number of question marks on their offseason outside of Daniel Kilgore and Joe Staley, so it appears likely they’ll be in the market for some depth.

Boone, 28, played out his five-year, $7.450 million contract that included $2.24 million guaranteed and will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks.

In 2015, Boone appeared in 13 games and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 33 guard out of 82 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.

THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH: Given Boone’s significant improved performance and low salary over the past five years as well as the over-all horrible OL play of last year, will GM Baalke continue his stupid player personnel decision making to not sign and let go another vet that will be a starter somewhere else? Hum.

Goodbye Boone the locker room cancer with his annual lazy holdout mainly to reduce the effort expended prior to the season & matador pass blocking.
He would have been released by Chip Kelly as a malcontent.

Many no nothing folks dislike Boone because he has a stainless backbone and speaks his mind. Yeah he held out so what this team has bigger problems and Bonne is smart for doing this it was to get more money and improve his family’s life- the 49ers were bad that year if he was there or not. Boone also had Harbaugh pegged for the nut case he is. These same folks support the two-faced, lazy, dress-up, mumble mouth, “7torm is coming”, failure QB7. I encourage the 49ers to resign Boone largely for his position as team oracle. Thank you.
