NFL Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Lions, & Patriots

Broncos

  • Jeff Legwold of ESPN writes that there’s at least a chance that veteran OLB DeMarcus Ware won’t be back with the team in 2016, depending on whether they can reach an agreement on a deal that would lower his $11.67 million cap figure.
  • According to Legwold, the Broncos want to keep ILB Danny Trevathan, but it will obviously be tough considering the list of free agents they’ll have to address.

Chargers

Chargers GM Tom Telesco confirmed that they will not use the franchise tag this offseason on any of their players.

I don’t foresee any scenario in which we’ll use the franchise tag,” Telesco said, via the Union Tribune.

Eric Weddle probably made the most sense for the tag, but it’s been pretty clear for some time now that the won’t be back in San Diego next year.

Lions

Former Lions RB Joique Bell said that the team did make him an offer before they released him, but he declined it to become a free agent.

“The NFL is a crazy business,” said Bell, via Justin Rogers of MLive.com. “You never know. The Lions made me an offer. I thought I did what was best for my career. I ended up declining the offer.”

Patriots

  • Mel Kiper of ESPN suggested to Mike Reiss that Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo could be a player that would make sense for the Patriots at No. 60 overall.
  • Other receivers to keep an eye could include Pittsburgh’s Tyler Boyd, Ohio State’s Michael Thomas and Braxton Miller, according to Reiss.
  • Reiss mentions DT Tyrunn Walker is one under-the-radar free agent who could make sense for the Patriots. New England previously offered him a contract before signed on with the Lions.
