Former Rams DE Chris Long Already Being Pursued By Contending Teams

Peter King of MMQB.com writes that of the three players released by the Rams last week — DE Chris Long, TE Jared Cook, and James Laurinaitis –, the one they could end up regretting the most is Long.

King reports that Long contending teams are already pursuing him now that he’s available to sign with a team of choosing.

Although, King mentions that a signing may not happen any time soon, considering that he and his wife are expecting their first child in the coming weeks.

King doesn’t offer any specifics regarding which teams are interested in Long, but some speculative options — both contenders and noncontenders — could include: the Falcons, Panthers, Cowboys, Lions, Jaguars, Giants, Raiders, Seahawks, and Buccaneers.

Long, 30, was in the final year of his five-year, $60.31 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $9.75 million for the 2016 season when he was released.

In 2015, Long appeared in 12 games and recorded 19 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the Rams. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 edge defender out of 110 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
