Broncos To Push For “Mega Long-Term Extension” For Von Miller

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the BroncosĀ are poised to push for a “mega long-term extension” for OLB Von Miller in the coming weeks.

  • According to Rapoport, the two sides have met to discuss an extension and there’s now “optimism” that it gets done.
  • Rapoport mentions that thisĀ would open up a number of options for them to also retain QB Brock Osweiler.Ā However, the hope right now is for DenverĀ to sign Osweiler to a long-term deal.
  • Troy Renck also reports that the Broncos have had “encouraging discussions” with Miller’s repsĀ and hope to continue discussing a long-term deal.

Recent reports have said that Miller was likely headed for the franchise tag, but it appears as though the Broncos will try to get a long-term deal in place before considering this option.

The franchise tag will run the Broncos close toĀ $14 million for the 2016 season.

Mike Klis of 9NewsĀ previously mentioned thatĀ Miller will likely sign a long-term deal that will pay himĀ somewhere between Justin Houstonā€™s $16.83 million annual salary andĀ Ndamukong Suhā€™s annual average of $19.06 million.

Miller, 26, played outĀ his four-year, $21 million rookie contract,Ā and is playing out the 2015 season under the fifth-year option the Broncos picked up last year.

In 2015,Ā Miller appeared all 16Ā games and recorded 35 tackles, 11Ā sacks, threeĀ fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles.Ā Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2Ā outside linebacker in a 3-4 defenseĀ out of 53Ā qualifying players.

We have Miller listed as the No. 1 player in our Top 100Ā – 2016 Free Agents list.
