Jaguars Hoping To Sign TE Marcedes Lewis To An Extension Soon

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell told reporters on Thursday that he hopes to have an extension in place with TE Marcedes Lewis before the start of free agency, per Michael DiRocco.

This fits with what HC Gus Bradley said previously, which is that he was hoping to re-sign Lewis at some point this offseason.

Lewis is one of their best pass blockers, and is a good No. 2 option to starting TE Julius Thomas.

Lewis, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2006. He’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming weeks, and tight ends are always of interest to NFL teams, so he could have a better than expected market.

In 2015, Lewis appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars and recorded 16 receptions for 226 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 37 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.
