NFL Rumors: Colin Kaepernick, Jaguars, Patriots, & Ravens

Colin Kaepernick

49ers owner Jed York said he still believes QB Colin Kaepernick can be a “big piece” of what they’re doing.

“All I can tell you is that the last conversation I had with Kap was a good conversation,” York told Mark Purdy of the San Jose Mercury News. “I asked how he was feeling. I hope he’s doing well. I care about his health and well-being because I think he can be a big piece of what we’re doing, going forward.

“I think that it was very clear from Chip, from Trent and ultimately with my blessing to say that we’re more than comfortable paying Kap,” York said. “Because they want him here. Chip thinks he would be a great fit for our offense.”

York added that he hasn’t spoke to Kaepernick’s representatives since the reports of him wanting a trade surfaced.

“I haven’t talked to his people,” York said. “And I try to stay away from what the agents say. I know what our feeling is. We want Kap to be healthy. And we’d like to see Kap here.

Jaguars

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union expects the Jaguars to wait until after the draft to make a decision regarding LT Luke Joeckel‘s fifth-year option.

“It’s something we’re working through,” GM David Caldwell said. “I know [the coaches] are going through all the film from last year and that will take the off-season and until the players come back. No decision has been made on that.

Patriots

  • The Patriots promoted Dave Ziegler to director of pro personnel, filling the void created by Bob Quinn’s departure for the Lions’ GM position.
  • Mike Reiss of ESPN mentions that Bills restricted free agent WR Chris Hogan could be someone to keep an eye on for the Patriots, depending on whether he receives a tender from Buffalo.

Ravens

  • ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Baltimore Ravens and the agent for Joe Flacco made “significant progress” in contract talks this week.
  • The two sides are expected to meet again Sunday at the NFL combine, according to Caplan.
