NFL Rumors: DeMarco Murray, Broncos, Buccaneers, & Jets

DeMarco Murray

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk takes a look at what would likely need to happen for DeMarco Murray to be traded to the Cowboys.

The first of which would be the Cowboys and Eagles working out an agreement on compensation.

After that, Murray would have to restructure his five-year, $40 million contract to facilitate any deal.

Even though both teams play in the same division, Florio doesn’t think this would preclude a trade. Instead, Florio considers Murray’s contract to be the biggest issue.

Trading Murray would still leave the Eagles with a cap hit of $4 million 2016, and there’s still the question of whether Murray would even be willing to rework his deal and waive some of the remaining guarantees.

Broncos

  • Mike Klis reports that talks between Broncos and OLB Von Miller are still ongoing, but they have plenty more work to do before franchise tag deadline on Tuesday.

Buccaneers

  • According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, it would still be a surprise to see the Buccaneers and free agent RB Doug Martin reach an agreement on a long-term contract before the legal tampering period on March 7-8.
  • Stroud mentions that there’s still too much time remaining between now and the start of free agency for either side to stop posturing.
  • Stroud adds that the franchise tag, which would run Tampa Bay $11.789 million, is not an option.

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets aren’t interested in trading for QB Colin Kaepernick.
  • Cimini considers trading for Kaepernick to be “took risky” and “too expensive” for the Jets.
  • Instead, Cimini gets the sense that the Jets plan to move forward with Ryan Fitzpatrick negotiations.
  • Interestingly enough, Cimini spoke with an NFL source who doesn’t view DE Muhammad Wilkerson as an elite player. Cimini’s source pointed to Wilkerson having an “inordinate number of cheap sacks.”
  • Cimini mentions that the Jets met with a number of quarterback prospects at the Combine including: Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Paxton Lynch and Dak Prescott.
