Vikings Expected To Discuss Pay Cut With WR Mike Wallace, Hoping To Keep Him

Jason Cole of B/R, citing a source within the Vikings, reports that GM Rick Spielman is scheduled to meet with WR Mike Wallace at the Combine regarding a pay cut.

Cole mentions that Minnesota is hoping to reduce his total compensation for the 2016, but their coaching staff reportedly likes Wallace and would prefer to have him back next year if they can agree on a lower salary.

Joel Corry of CBS Sports believes the Vikings should cut Wallace unless he’s willing to salary to something more in the range of No. 2 receiver compensation.

Wallace, 29, is in the fourth five-year, $60 million contract that included $30 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $11.45 million over the next two years.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Wallace would free up $11.5 million in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2105, Wallace appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings and recorded 39 receptions for 473 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
