Redskins Holding Out Hope To Trade RGIII, Would Take As Little As 7th-Rd Pick For Him

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Redskins would take anything they could get in return for QB Robert Griffin III, including a seventh-round pick.

According to Florio, Washington is holding out hope that a trade opportunity will surface is the only reason why they have yet to release him outright.

In order for a trade to be an option, RGIII would obviously have to be willing to rework his current salary of $16.155 million, which becomes fully guaranteed at the start of the 2016 league year.

Florio previously reported that RGIII would consider doing so for the right team, but it would still cost that team a draft pick to acquire him.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last week that at least two teams have spoken to the Redskins about the possibility of trading for Griffin.

Redskins president Bruce Allen confirmed that he has heard from interested teams in RGIII.

“I see Robert getting an opportunity with another team,” Allen said, via Mighty1090.com. “We’ve heard from some teams that are interested. I think he’s going to have a choice of a couple teams that will let him excel in the future.”

Washington moving on from Griffin is a foregone conclusion, but it appears as though it could be a few more days before he’s released or traded.

For what it’s worth, the BroncosCowboys, Rams, 49ers and Browns have all come up as speculative landing spots for Griffin.

Griffin, 25, was in the final year of his four-year, $21,119,098 rookie contract when Washington elected to pick up his fifth-year option worth $16.2 million last year.

However, they elected to bench him and make RGIII their third-string quarterback to prevent him from getting injured, which would have made his $16.2 million in 2016 fully guaranteed.

In 2014, Griffin appeared in nine games and threw for 1,694 yards while completing 68.7 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and six interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding where RGIII could end up as the news is available.
