Texans A Team To Watch For Brock Osweiler If He’s Not Back With Broncos?

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, if the Broncos aren’t able to re-sign QB Brock Osweiler in the coming weeks, the team to watch for him would likely be the Texans.

It’s worth mentioning that La Canfora adds that many around the league still anticipate Osweiler returning to the Broncos when all is said and done.

The Broncos have made it clear that they won’t use their franchise tag on Osweiler, even in the event they sign OLB Von Miller to a long-term deal, which gives them a few days to work on a new contract before Osweiler can meet with prospective teams.

Last week, reports said that the Broncos have yet to have any substantive contract negotiations with Osweiler, but you can expect that to change in the coming days.

You would have to think that if the Broncos can come anywhere close to his asking price he would be back in Denver next year, given that he is in a good spot with a stable franchise.

Even so, the possibility exists that a team like that the Texans could complicate the situation, depending on what they’re willing to offer him. Houston is clearly in the market for a new quarterback, but some believe they’re more likely to draft a prospect.

Osweiler, 25, is in the final year of his four-year, $3.516 million rookie contract that included a $997,584 signing bonus. He’ll make a base salary of $660,000 for the 2015 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.

In 2015, Osweiler threw for 1,967 yards while completing 61.8 percent of his passes to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions over the course of seven games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
