NFL Rumors: Tom Coughlin, Giants, Redskins, & Saints

Tom Coughlin

Former Giants HC Tom Coughlin told John Healy of the New York Daily News that he obviously did not agree with the team’s decision to replace him as head coach a few months ago.

Hey, do I agree with the move? Of course not. It hurts. It hurts,” Coughlin said. “Former is not a good word. I don’t like the word, but that’s the way it is.”

Giants

According to the New York Daily News, the Giants are expected to at least place a call to either DE Mario Williams and DE Olivier Vernon in the coming days.

The report mentions that there is at least some concern regarding what it will take to sign either player.

In regarding to Jason Pierre-Paul, the report says that they would prefer to bring him back on a short-term deal and nowhere near the top of the defensive end market in terms of salary.

Redskins

Redskins free agent DT Terrance Knighton told Sirius XM NFL Radio that he hasn’t heard from the Redskins about an extension, but he plans to not to get emotional during free agency this year.

I haven’t got any hint that they want me back or anything. To me personally, I haven’t heard anything,” Knighton said. “That’s one thing I’m not going to stress about. Obviously last time around I was hoping something could get done with Denver. I was praying on that, talking it up all the time whenever I talked to the media. I felt in my heart that’s where I’d be and my emotions got caught into it. This time around I understand it’s a business. I’m not really understanding why a guy like myself [who brings] what I bring to a team [is] bouncing around like this but it’ll catch up with itself.”

Saints

  • Alex Marvez reports that the Saints are considering holding training camp at home instead of returning to West Virginia.
